“For the rest of your life youll never be so important to another human being as you are to your child today.”
Dr. Bruno Bettleheim
Welcome to The Hokey Pokey Kitchen!
My name is Aleena and, believe it or not, I am a sane mama of four little kids under the age of five. Oh yes, they are all mine and no, I don’t have any twins!
Having four kids so close together essentially means that I am always super busy and perpetually in a hurry. I can’t hold a conversation without losing focus (one eye always needs to be on the kids), can not get out of the house without food stains on my clothes, heck, I can not even go to the bathroom without being followed.
But enough ranting about what I can not do! Here is what I can do: I have this one chance at motherhood and as tough as it is I try to give it ALL that I have got. My very best and nothing less. Absolutely and utterly!
My goal everyday is to keep my kids unplugged (as much as possible) from television (I have pledged to keep my home a Wii-free zone) and to keep them engrossed in simple pleasurable activities like reading, cooking, art, singing, exploring the outdoors, riding their bicycles and just discovering the world and themselves in the process.
This blog is about one aspect of my life that I am most passionate about: cooking and reading with kids! Yup, that is what the hokey pokey kitchen is all about. I love snuggling up with my kids and our favorite books. I also love cooking meals/snacks that go along with the theme of the book. I always get the kids with me to brain storm and come up with ideas about what they want to do. Oh, the things they come up with! I feel this way they reflect upon or expand on what theyve absorbed and, at the same time, develop their own creativity. It definitely grows their imagination and fosters a love for reading, cooking and healthy eating!
I hope along the way I can inspire other people to unplug and get involved with their kids. Through this process, everyday, I learn so much about my kids. I hope to use this knowledge to guide them through every step of their life and enable them to achieve their potential in life.
So, as they say, let the wild rumpus begin!
